Environmental & Social Manager
Join Fossefall as Environmental & Social Manager: lead E&S due diligence, permitting, and stakeholder coordination to shape sustainable AI infrastructure across Europe.
Environmental & Social Manager
Own the environmental and social foundation of Europe's AI infrastructure - from due diligence and permitting to the communities and regulators who decide whether a project gets built.
The job in one sentence
A data centre is only as buildable as its environmental and social licence. Permits, impact assessments, communities, regulators - get these wrong and the strongest project stalls; get them right and it moves. We're hiring the person who owns that work, end to end.
What you'd actually do
Fossefall develops AI factories that turn Nordic renewable power into sovereign computing capacity for Europe. As Environmental & Social Manager, you make sure the environmental, social, permitting and regulatory side of every project is handled properly - early, thoroughly and on time - so projects mature toward investment decisions without surprises. You report to the Head of Project Development and work across development, finance, property and delivery.
Lead the due diligence.
Run environmental and social due diligence across the portfolio: scope the work, manage the consultants, review what they deliver, and keep studies on schedule with respect to Fossefall’s stage gate process.
Track findings, risks, mitigation measures and follow-up actions so nothing falls through.
Drive permitting and regulation.
Shape permitting strategy and regulatory engagement across projects.
Coordinate environmental studies, impact assessments and permitting documentation, and watch for the risks, delays and compliance issues before they bite.
Build E&S in early.
Get involved from the earliest stage of a project - spot environmental and social risks and opportunities while they're still cheap to act on, and bring that into project-readiness reviews and the investment decisions along the way.
Manage advisors and stakeholders.
Be Fossefall's main point of contact for environmental, social and permitting advisors.
Keep the workstreams pulling in the same direction - technical, environmental, commercial and development.
Keep communication clear between internal teams, authorities and communities.
Set the standard.
Build and maintain the E&S management processes, standards and documentation - complete, structured and audit-ready — and keep improving them.
You'll recognise yourself here if
You've led E&S, permitting or impact-assessment work on real infrastructure, and you know where it tends to get stuck.
You hold strategic oversight and hands-on detail at the same time.
You build constructive relationships with regulators, consultants, communities and commercial teams alike.
You move things forward through follow-up, not just analysis.
You want commercial success and environmental and social responsibility to both be real - not a trade-off you quietly paper over.
This won't suit you if you want a narrow specialist seat with someone else holding the whole. Here, the workstream is yours.
What you need
Several years leading environmental and social work - permitting, impact assessments, due diligence or sustainability - on infrastructure or comparable complex projects.
A strong grasp of environmental regulatory frameworks and permitting processes.
A track record managing consultants, advisors or multidisciplinary teams.
Clear written and spoken English. Norwegian is a plus.
A relevant degree - environmental science or engineering, sustainability, planning, geography, ecology, civil engineering or similar - is useful, but we weigh demonstrated capability over the exact discipline.
Why spend the next chapter of your career here
You'll own the E&S strategy for infrastructure of European significance — shaping it, not advising on it from the sidelines.
Real ownership from week one, with exposure to permitting, financing and delivery of large-scale assets.
You'll set how Fossefall does environmental and social work, before the patterns harden.
Room to grow as the portfolio and the company grow.
Practicalities
Location: Stavanger or Oslo.
About Fossefall
Fossefall is a Nordic AI-infrastructure company founded in 2025. We're around 30 people today, and moving fast to bring many more warm and talented people on board.
As a team, we're still small enough to know each other as people. We're curious - about each other, and about how the whole machine fits together - and we explain the why behind what we do. We're warm and generous with one another, and no one is left alone with a problem: we think out loud and bounce ideas together. We're clear about who owns what, and we do what we said we would.
What we're building
We develop and operate AI factories powered by renewable energy, turning clean Nordic power into scalable, sovereign computing capacity for Europe - built in partnership with local communities, energy producers and technology leaders across the world.
To apply
If you want to own the environmental and social side of building real infrastructure — and care about getting it right — we'd like to hear from you. A short note on a project where you made the E&S work happen tells us more than a polished cover letter.
